About This Event
Yellow Star Company stage José Saramago's play "A Noite" in Lagoa on 12 September — Portuguese language, set in a newsroom on the night of the 1974 revolution.
Saramago wrote "A Noite" in 1979 and set it entirely inside a Lisbon newspaper office on the night of 24–25 April 1974, as the Carnation Revolution unfolds outside and the editors argue about what they can and cannot print. It is a play about censorship, courage and the small compromises people make to keep their jobs, and it lands differently in a country that lived it.
Yellow Star Company are one of the Algarve's more ambitious theatre groups and this is a demanding text for them.
Performed in Portuguese with no surtitles, so this one is for confident speakers or those happy to go for atmosphere. Roughly ninety minutes without an interval.
