An evening stargazing session at the Lagos science centre, with telescopes and guides on hand to walk you through the night sky.
The Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos opens its doors after dark for an astronomy evening — telescopes set up outside, staff on hand to point things out, and a planetarium session if the weather turns. The Algarve has some of the clearest skies in mainland Europe, and the Lagos coast is far enough from the bigger light domes to actually see something useful.
It suits curious adults and older kids more than toddlers — there's a fair bit of standing around and looking up. Bring a jumper, the breeze off the harbour gets cold after sunset.
Sessions in Portuguese with English on request. Worth checking the centre's site the day before — they cancel if the cloud cover is bad.
