A free outdoor prehistory festival at the University of the Algarve's Gambelas campus — fifteen hands-on activities aimed at families.
The University of the Algarve turns its Gambelas campus over to prehistory for the day. Fifteen hands-on stations run by archaeology students and staff — flint-knapping demos, cave-painting workshops, ancient pottery, fire-starting, the lot. It's the kind of event that sounds niche but works because it's outside, free, and the activities are pitched at kids rather than aimed over their heads.
Bring sun protection — the campus is open and shaded patches are limited at midday. Wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty. Most activities are walk-up, no booking needed.
A solid Saturday for families with kids who like getting their hands into things, and a chance to see the university campus if you're curious. Mostly in Portuguese but the activities are visual enough that language isn't a barrier.
