A four-hour international endurance round with LMP2, LMP3 and GT3 machinery at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, 9–10 October.

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is one of the most technically demanding circuits in Europe, and the European Le Mans Series is one of the few race weekends here where the cars are fast enough and the racing is close enough to justify the drive inland. The main event is a four-hour endurance race on the Saturday, with LMP2 prototypes, LMP3 machinery and GT3 cars all on track at once, navigating traffic and managing fuel and tyres while trying to stay out of each other's way.

This is proper sportscar racing — multi-class, strategic, and often decided by pit-stop timing rather than outright speed. The LMP2 cars are the fastest, capable of lapping the circuit in under one minute forty, while the GT3 machinery is slower but closer together and more prone to drama. The LMP3 class sits in the middle, and the result is a race where the leaders are constantly overtaking slower traffic and where a single mistake can cost a podium.

The circuit is inland near Mexilhoeira Grande, about fifteen minutes north of Portimão, and the setting is stark — low scrub, rolling hills, and very little shade. Early October is one of the better times to be here. The weather is still warm but not punishing, the sea is swimmable if you want to pair the weekend with a day or two on the coast, and the crowds are a fraction of what you would see at the MotoGP weekend six weeks later.

Paddock access is usually included with general admission, which means you can walk through the team garages, watch the mechanics work, and see the cars up close between sessions. It is a far more relaxed atmosphere than you would find at a Formula One or MotoGP event, and the teams are generally happy to talk if you catch them at the right moment.

Tickets are sold via the circuit's official site and are considerably cheaper than the headline motorsport weekends here. If you have any interest in endurance racing, or if you simply want to see what a modern sportscar sounds like at full speed through the circuit's blind crests and elevation changes, this is the closest it gets to the Algarve. The main race is on the Saturday, so you can make a weekend of it without committing to three full days trackside.
