Silves transforms into a medieval city for nine days of historical reenactments, jousts, Arabic-themed gastronomy, traditional music, and a costumed parade. One of Portugal's biggest and most atmospheric medieval fairs, set against the backdrop of Silves Castle.
The Feira Medieval de Silves is one of Portugal's most spectacular historical reenactments — and the setting is unbeatable. The whole town becomes a medieval city, with Silves Castle towering over costumed parades, sword fights, falconry displays, and Arabic-themed bazaars in the streets below.
Silves was the capital of the Moorish Algarve (Xelb) and remains one of the region's most evocative historic towns. The red sandstone Silves Castle is the largest in the Algarve and a perfect setting for the fair.
From the EN125, take the exit to Silves and follow signs to the historic centre. Parking is limited during the fair — arrive early or use the free shuttle from the outskirts.
