The boat is a crewed sailing yacht rather than a motor cruiser, so the experience is quieter and slower-paced, though the engine is used when wind is light or when manoeuvring near the coast.

The route takes in the same stretch of limestone cliffs and sea caves that feature on most Benagil boat tours, but the sailing format changes the feel. There is more time spent under sail in open water, and the crew will adjust the itinerary based on wind and sea state. Stops are made for swimming or simply drifting off a beach, conditions permitting. The boat does not enter Benagil Cave—it is too large and the mast too tall—but you will see it from close range, along with smaller grottoes and rock arches that the crew will point out as you pass.

The yacht is equipped with a shaded seating area, a small galley, and two restrooms. Numbers are kept relatively low to maintain a comfortable atmosphere on deck. The crew is experienced and handles all the sailing; passengers are welcome to help with lines or ask questions, but there is no expectation that you know anything about boats. The emphasis is on relaxation rather than participation.

Snacks and drinks are not included in the base price, but you have two options: pre-order a menu from the operator, or bring your own food and drinks for a small additional fee. Dark-coloured drinks—red wine, cola, coffee—are not permitted on board because they stain the deck, and shoes with black rubber soles are also banned for the same reason. Wear white-soled trainers, deck shoes, or go barefoot. These rules are standard on charter yachts and are enforced, so check your footwear before you leave the hotel.

Sea conditions can limit what the boat is able to do. If swell is high, swimming stops may be shortened or skipped, and the route may stay farther offshore. The decision rests with the skipper and is made on the day; the operator states that safety is the priority and that the trip will still be worthwhile even if some activities are curtailed. This is worth bearing in mind if you are booking in autumn or winter when Atlantic swells are more frequent.

The sailing portion is most enjoyable when there is a steady breeze, which is common in spring and early summer. In high summer the wind can drop in the afternoons, meaning more motoring and less sail. If you are booking specifically for the sailing experience, ask about typical wind conditions for the time of year. If you are more interested in the coast and the swimming stops, the season matters less.
