This full-day tour combines two very different experiences: a four-hour jeep safari through the Algarve's mountainous interior, followed by a boat trip along the coast. The first half takes you inland, away from the resorts and beaches, into a landscape of cork oak forests, narrow valleys, and whitewashed villages that have changed little in decades. The second half brings you back to the water, where the focus shifts to sea caves, hidden beaches, and the possibility of spotting dolphins offshore. It is a long day, but the variety keeps it from feeling repetitive.

The jeep portion starts with a drive into the hills, where the roads quickly turn to dirt tracks and the vegetation thickens. You travel in a Land Rover with an experienced driver who knows the terrain and the stories behind the landscape. The route takes you to natural springs where you can swim in cold, clear water that tastes faintly mineral and feels nothing like the ocean. You stop at small farms to taste traditional Algarve liqueur and honey, both produced locally and sold in unmarked bottles that would never make it onto a supermarket shelf.

After a short break, the tour transitions to the boat trip, which departs from the coast and heads out along the shoreline. The boat is designed for sightseeing, with open decks and a captain who knows where the caves are and how to navigate the narrow channels between the rocks. You pass beaches that are only accessible by water, cliffs that rise sheer from the sea, and algares — collapsed sea caves that form natural skylights in the rock. During the summer months, the boat stops for a swim, and the water is deep, clear, and startlingly cold.

Dolphins are a possibility but not a guarantee. The boat follows the coast rather than heading out into open water, so sightings tend to be opportunistic rather than planned. If dolphins do appear, the captain will slow down and give you time to watch, but there is no promise of close encounters. The boat trip lasts a couple of hours and covers a significant stretch of coastline, offering a perspective on the cliffs and beaches that you cannot get from land.
