About This Event
The mountain town of Monchique celebrates its local traditions with a three-day festival featuring smoked sausages, honey, medronho liquor, artisan crafts, and live music.
Vamos à Vila — Monchique Festival 2026
The Monchique Festival (locally known as Vamos à Vila) runs from 30 May – 1 June 2026 in the heart of the Serra de Monchique — the Algarve's mountain heartland.
What to Expect
- Local products taking centre stage: smoked sausages (enchidos), honey, medronho (strawberry tree liquor), and traditional sweets
- Artisan crafts and handmade goods from the Monchique region
- Live music and entertainment — highlights include a 7ª Legião concert (31 May, 9:30 PM) and Marta Pereira da Costa (1 June, 6 PM)
- Taverns, terraces, crafts, and regional cuisine with guest municipalities Machico and Montejaque
- Markets and food stalls serving mountain cuisine
- A genuine celebration of Algarve's interior culture
Why Go
Monchique is the Algarve's refreshing counterpoint to the coast — cooler, greener, and deeply traditional. This festival is a window into the mountain communities that have shaped the region for centuries. The food alone is worth the drive.
About Monchique
Perched in the Serra de Monchique at around 450 m altitude, the town is known for its thermal springs, eucalyptus forests, and the famous medronho spirit. It's about 45 minutes from the coast and feels like a completely different world.
