About This Route
Challenging hike to the second highest peak in the Algarve (774m) with panoramic views from the Atlantic to Spain.
A rewarding mountain hike in the Serra de Monchique offering some of the best panoramic views in the Algarve. On clear days, you can see the Atlantic coast and all the way to Spain.
Route Overview
The circular trail starts from Monchique village and climbs through cork oak forests and eucalyptus groves to the exposed summit of Picota (774m).

Trail Details
The ascent is steady with some steeper rocky sections near the summit. The trail is well-waymarked with red/white GR markers and local signs.

Park in Monchique village center. The trailhead is signed from the main square.
